The word diet comes from Old French diete and Medieval Latin dieta meaning “a daily food allowance”. The Latin word diaeta and Greek word diaita mean “a way of life, a regimen”.
People often ask me if I’m Vegetarian or Vegan. If I’m eating Paleo or what sort of “Fad Diet” I am following. I’m am also asked by the trainers at the gym and my friends – “where do I get my energy “. How can I train at the gym every morning, run a couple of businesses, practice yoga in the evening, and cook and prepare all my own home-made meals?
Sometimes I ask my myself as well – How the heck do I actually do that?
This is my Week:
I train at the gym 6 days a week, where I either join a group fitness class or train by myself. I absolutely love HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training) and for a busy person like me it’s perfect. Start early, smash out a HIIT Class for 30 min to get the blood flowing with high intensity training, and I’m out of the gym door and ready to begin my day at work.
During the week (and every weekend, as there is no rest in business!) I am the Director and Shareholder of three companies – Organic Food Hampers, National Workwear and National Embroidery, which keeps me extremely busy, however it is a very rewarding journey.
Early Sunday mornings, when a lot of people sleep in (don’t get me wrong the bed is so comfortable especially on Sundays) my husband and I squeeze a RPM class in. I have such a love/hate relationship with those RPM classes, nevertheless I do it every week.
Yoga – OMG I love yoga and it has changed my life. Living with a chronic sore back and introducing yoga into my life has been life changing. Not only the health benefits , but also for the whole social and holistic aspect. I have gained so many beautiful friends throughout the different yoga communities to which I belong. My world is so much better for the experience and it brings great joy to my life. If there is one thing I could change in my life, it would to have begun yoga at a much earlier age.
So coming back to Fad Diet or no Fad Diet. I eat a well-balanced diet with the majority of my meals being plant based. That works well for me. However, I do eat eggs, or a small portion of chicken or fish, to ensure that I get some animal protein every day. I very rarely red meat in my diet, however one in a Blue Moon I have a craving for a piece of steak, and when I do, I really enjoy it.
In my diet I don’t eat food that contains refined sugar or preservatives and additives. I use fresh organic produce purchased from the Miami Organic Markets for all my meals, and I attribute that to my long lasting energy and vitality. I never have the high and low spikes that sugar gives you. I limit my intake of grains and dairy, however I will eat it when I feel like it.
“I guess – what I’m trying to say, is that I simply listen to my body! It is amazing how many signals our body can give us, if we listen to it and are prepared to receive the information. I also believe that we all have different body types which need different food groups, and what works for me won’t necessarily work for you.
I absolutely love life, I feel fantastic and even though my birth certificate indicates that I am a woman of middle age, I refuse to live by it.”
